Our largest crowd ever – over 500 spectators – came out to see four Ferrari Beaters take to the track. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, no other marque dominated endurance road racing like Ferrari. But, there were four cars that did seriously challenge Ferrari’s dominance: the Aston Martin DBR1 in 1958-59, the Cobra Daytona Coupe in 1964 and ’65, the Ford GT in 1966 and ’67, and the Porsche 917 in 1970 and ’71. The Demonstration began with a presentation by Dr. Simeone on the history of the cars being presented and of the Le Mans race. Then we fired up the cars up and everyone could hear what they sounded like in their day.
