We’re not going to have a new Car Detective Challenge this week as we prepare to say goodbye to our friend and hero, Dr. Frederick Simeone. It’s not lost on us that the only time we had featured Dr. Simeone in this series is also the week that we no longer have our favorite Car Detective’s opinion on the subject matter, and the questions that we chose. Some people might find this hard to believe but we have had over 100 Car Detective Photo Challenges and I can count on one hand the number of times he didn’t know the answers. He was really that good. We normally put the answers in the comments below but this one time I want go a little more in depth with the Q and A’s in this post.
#1. Name his first car – 1949 Alfa Romeo 6c 2500 Brixia. You can see this car in the comments below. It was the first car that Dr. Simeone ever owned and was given to him by his father Anthony. It is still a part of our collection.
#2. What honor was he awarded by the Italian government? – Dr. Simeone was knighted as a Cavaliere by the president of the republic of Italy for his work in medicine. He was eligible to receive an even higher honor, but that would have required him to revisit Rome, which he sadly never got the chance to do.
#3. What branch of the military did he serve in and what was his military occupation? Dr. Simeone served as a doctor in the US Army, eventually reaching the rank of major, and was decorated for his work saving the lives of his fellow soldiers.
#4. What was his favorite song to listen to while performing surgery? Technically Buzz didn’t get this one, but it was kind of an inside story so we can give him a pass. Believe it or not, Dr. Simeone’s favorite song to perform operations with was “Smooth Operator” by Sade, which is exactly what we was.
We’re going to continue with this series because he loved it, and we loved challenging him every week with it, even though the truth of the matter is it wasn’t us challenging him, but him challenging us
