This indoor session held on January 26, 2013, was devoted to a discussion of the evolution of the racing sports car engine using examples of significant cars from the collection. Dr. Simeone began the program with the Mercer and a description of its T-head engine, it benefits and drawbacks. This led to the Flathead in the V-12 Auburn, the Single Overhead Cam engine in the Stutz, and ended with the pinnacle of pre-war racing engine design, the Double-overhead Cam 2900 cc Alfa Romeo.
