Following on last month’s very popular presentation on the 3-liter racing engine, on Saturday, February 26th, there was another inside seminar, this time on racing sports car chassis design – from tubular to monocoque. Dr. Simeone presented a lecture on significant cars and how their design advanced chassis technology, accompanied by slides showing cutaways and diagrams of various suspension/chassis designs. To further illustrate the presentation, examples from the Museum collection were on display, including a Mercer Raceabout, an Alfa 8C 2900B, a C-Type Jaguar, a D-Type Jaguar, a Lancia Lambda and a Ford Mk IV, the car that launched the modern monocoque/tub era of chassis design. This presentation offered the nearly 200 attendees the opportunity to view examples of significant racing sports car design advances – all in one place. and afterwords, they were able to get up close for photos.
