Our Friend Tommy Kortman

We are deeply saddened to share the news that our dear friend and volunteer Tommy Kortman has passed away.

Tommy has been an important part of our team since 2012 and was one of our most-loved and popular volunteers. Tommy was a self-proclaimed gear head who loved cars and everything about the sport of racing. His father was a mechanic, and Tommy always said that his first memory was doing body work with his “Pop” on their 57 Chevy. Tommy spent a lot of his formative years wrenching and racing cars before settling back down to focus on model building in his later days.

When we think of Tommy, the first word that comes to mind is helper. He was always there to lend a hand with any project, and gave everything he could to support the museum. Tommy co-founded the Philly NNL Model Car Group in 2017, and his model car shows were some of our favorite events and most highly-attended special events.

We already miss Tommy’s easy smile, gregarious laugh, and thoughtful presence. We already miss his incredible photographs and amazing models. We already miss the man that was Tommy Kortman. Thank you for your time, your service, and your dedication to our museum.

Godspeed old friend.

Tommy will be laid to rest on Wednesday, October 28 at Sweeney’s Funeral Home in Riverside N.J. The service will be held between the hours of 6-8 pm.
