Before Carroll Shelby founded Shelby American to build the iconic Cobra, he was a world-class racing driver, winning the Le Mans 24-Hour race in 1959. In conjunction with the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC), historian Harry Hurst will make a presentation on Shelby’s early years in Texas and his rise to international stature as a driver of some of the leading cars of the day. As part of the presentation, Hurst will use three cars from the Simeone collection that reflect cars that Shelby drove, including a 1950 Allard J2, a 1954 Ferrari 375MM, and a 1958 Aston Martin DBR1, the sister car to the one Shelby won with at Le Mans. The presentation will also include a spirited demonstration of Shelby’s prototype Cobra Daytona Coupe #CSX2287.
The presentation begins at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 26.
Admission is free for all Simeone Museum members and is included with any general admission ticket.
