Ed Welburn – The Golden Age of American Automotive Design

Ed Welburn, former Vice President General Motors Global Design shares his thoughts on the history of automotive design from 1920-1970.
About this event
As just the sixth head of design for General Motors and the first person ever to lead GM Design globally, Ed Welburn is one of the most influential vehicle designers of his time. Throughout his 44 years with GM, Ed was involved with the design of at least 540 vehicles and created a legacy that will leave an enduring mark in the history of the automaker. Ed first fell in love with automobiles at the Philadelphia Car Show, making him both a national and local treasure.
Please join us as we welcome Ed back to the Simeone Museum and his hometown of Philadelphia for a very special one-day event. Throughout the course of the event, Ed will share his thoughts and experiences in the realm of design, focusing on the years between 1920-1970 and will share his story through the lens of some of your favorite Simeone Collection automobiles including:
- 1928 Auburn 8-88 Boattail Speedster
- 1937 Cord 812 Supercharged
- 1948 Cadillac Series 61 Club Coupe
- 1953 Studebaker Commander
- 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 427 Roadster
- 1970 Plymouth Superbird
Tickets are $10-$12 dollars and are free for all Simeone Museum members and children under 18.
